2009-2010 Commission Members

Terry Werdel, Chair – t.Werdel@yahoo.com
Mr. Werdel graduated from the University of Oregon with a Bachelor of Architecture. He is currently working in Vancouver as an architect for a firm that focuses on school design. Terry is married to Jennifer and they have two children. Their son Connor attends St. Joseph Catholic School and Grace, their daughter, attends Vancouver School for the Arts and Academics. Terry has been a parishioner since 1996. His area of interest on the Commission is facility maintenance, planning and expansion.

Mrs. Michele Baker graduated from Portland State University with a Bachelor of Science with a Business emphasis in Operations and Materials Management. Michele has been married for 20 years and has one daughter attending St. Joseph School. She has been a parishioner since 2004 and was appointed to the School Commission in 2008 after serving two years as the PTO Chair. She is currently a stay at home mom after being in the Human Resources field for 15+ years. Her interest this year is in developing Tuition Assistance programs.

Becki Garrow - edbeckigarrow@q.com
Becki Garrow was appointed to the School Commission in spring 2009. She is a graduate from Pacific Lutheran University. Becki and her husband, Ed, have 4 children, all who attend St. Joseph School. She has been an active member of St. Joseph parish for the past 5 years and currently sings in the parish choir. Becki has served as the PTO Secretary, is a CYO Board member, and currently coaches track and field and cross-country. Before staying home to raise her children, Becki was an Operations Manager for American Express Financial Advisors in West Linn, Oregon, and Central California for 18 years. She enjoys reading, running, and staying active with her family.

Mary was appointed to the School Commission in 2007. She has a Bachelor of Science in Management & Organization from Central Washington University. For the past 23 years, Mary has volunteered in service of the underprivileged & needy within the U.S. military, both abroad & domestic. She currently serves on the Board of the 142 Fighter Wing Community Foundation and is the Founding Scholarship Chair. She has been employed in Education Management at both the University & Preschool levels. In 2006 she developed & implemented a Fitness Enrichment Program at Circle of Friends Preschool. Mary is married and has two children, both attending St. Joseph Catholic School. The Kent family have been parishioners since 1998. Her focus on the School Commission is in identifying opportunities that promote Marketing, Development, & Fund Raising for the school.

Brad Kuchenreuther – bkuchenreuther@comcast.net
Brad is a lifelong Northwesterner having grown up in the Puget Sound area. After a short three-year move to Kentucky, he and his family moved to Vancouver in June of 2008. Brad is married to Beth and has two children, both first graders attending St. Joseph’s. Brad and Beth joined the parish shortly after moving to the area. Brad is a graduate of Pacific Lutheran University and has worked in the private Career School industry for the past twenty years. He is currently campus President for Everest College here in Vancouver.

Mr. Nevitt moved to Vancouver in 2001 from the UK and has two children at St. Joseph’s. His wife, Lisa (nee Hotchkiss), is an alumnus and his mother-in-law, Jean Hotchkiss, is a former teacher and current volunteer. He has served on the School Commission since 2007 as the Finance Chair, and in that office he represents the School Commission on the Parish Finance Council. He has worked in finance for his whole career, having initially spent 14 years as an auditor with Grant Thornton in the UK and the US, and is currently the Chief Financial Officer for the Portland Art Museum. His main claim to fame is having audited Pope John Paul II’s 1987 visit to San Francisco, which involved attending Mass at Candlestick Park.

Patrick has been instrumental in assisting the school in its facility needs during his years on the School Commission. His area of experience is facility and construction management, developed over 16 years with the Port of Portland and the last 4 ˝ years with the Evergreen Public Schools Facilities Department. Patrick and his wife Mary, daughter Erin, two dogs Chandler and Daisy and cat Scooter live in Camas. They have been active parishioners since 1996 serving within several church ministries and volunteering frequently. Their daughter, Erin is currently a third grader at St Joseph School. Patrick is looking forward too another year working with the new commission members and parish community to plan for the future of St Joseph’s School.

Laura Veasy – glveasy@comcast.net
Laura graduated from Seattle University with a Bachelor of Arts in Education. She currently teaches part time at Circle of Friends Preschool. She and her husband, Greg, have been active members of St. Joseph Parish for 15 years. They have two children attending middle school at St. Joseph. Laura has served as PTO chair and in various other groups in both the parish and school. She was appointed to the School Commission in the spring of 2009. Her focus on the Commission is curriculum, long term planning and strengthening the parish/school connection.
