Faculty & Staff
Mrs. Harrison earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from Santa Clara University and a Teaching Credential from California State University, Hayward. She also has a Master of Arts in Educational Administration from University of San Francisco. Mrs. Harrison taught grades 3 – 6 in a public school environment for six years and was Director of a Gifted Education Program for grades 2 – 6 for four years. She also taught 7th and 8th grade English for six years at a Catholic school in San Jose. Mrs. Harrison had five years administrative experience in the Diocese of Portland prior to becoming principal at St. Joseph Catholic School in 2002.
Mrs. Lundy graduated from Gonzaga University with a Bachelor of Arts in French, a Bachelor of Arts in History and a Teaching Certificate. She received her Masters in Education: Emphasis in Educational Technology from City University. Mrs. Lundy has served as an Adjunct Professor of French at Gonzaga, a Teacher of French at Holy Names Academy, and a Teacher of History, Religion and PE at Blanchet High School. In 2002, Mrs. Lundy began teaching 7th and 8th grades at St. Joseph Catholic School. She became Vice-Principal in 2005 and received her administrative degree from the University of Portland. Her son and daughter have both graduated from St. Joseph.
Mrs. Veasy has a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Seattle University. Before coming to St. Joseph School she taught Preschool for eight years at Circle of Friends Preschool in Vancouver. She and her husband have been active members of the St. Joseph Parish community for the last 19 years. She has been involved in many aspects of the school community for the last eleven years. Her son and daughter both graduated from St. Joseph School.
Mrs. Jagelski graduated from University of Oregon with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology. She has worked for the City of Vancouver as a customer service representative, for St. Joseph Church in the nursery, and for St. Joseph School in Extended Care. She began working at the school in 2006. Mrs. Jagelski and her husband have four children and are now enjoying grandchildren as well.
Mrs. Sara Johnson is an Arizona native, born and raised in Prescott, Arizona. Mrs. Johnson received a Masters of Educational Leadership and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education with an emphasis in Spanish from Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Arizona. She taught First Grade in Chandler, Arizona for 7 years before starting a family. Her family moved to Vancouver in 2008 and became active members of St. Joseph School and Parish. She is married and has 2 children who currently attend St. Joseph School. She is actively involved in the PTO and VBS. She is grateful to have the opportunity to work at a wonderful school like St. Joseph.
Mrs. Lines earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Portland State University in 2003. Before pursuing teaching, she worked in the Education Department at the Oregon Zoo leading overnight tours. She has also interned with the Birds of Prey Program at the Oregon zoo, as well as learned to train bottlenose dolphins at an internship with Dolphin Quest in Hawaii. After realizing that her calling was to work with children, she returned to school in 2005 to earn her Masters in Teaching along with a Washington teaching certificate from Washington State Vancouver. She taught Kindergarten at Christ the King Catholic School in Milwaukie, Oregon before becoming a 3rd grade teacher at St. Joseph in 2010.
Mrs. Barbieri received a Bachelor of Arts in Education from the University of Portland and Master of Arts in Reading from the University of Northern Colorado. She has also completed her Catechetical Certification for the Archdiocese of Seattle. She taught 10 years in public schools in Oregon, Colorado, Missouri, and Kansas; and was an adjunct faculty member at Clark College for three years. In her teaching career, Mrs. Barbieri has taught all grades kindergarten through eighth with the exception of third. She came to St. Joseph School in 2000. One of her daughters graduated from St. Joseph and the other is currently in our Middle School.
Mrs. Alkema received a Bachelor Degree and Elementary Education teaching credential from San Jose State University. She has completed the Professional Certification for her Washington teaching certificate and Catechetical Certification for the Archdiocese of Seattle. Mrs. Alkema taught grades 2, 4, 5 and 6 at Catholic schools in California and Washington. She was a long term substitute at St. Joseph School in 2008 before taking a full time position in 2009.
Mrs. Phillips attended University of Portland where she received a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education in 2004. She completed her Professional Certification as well as a Masters in Education with emphasis in technology from City University in 2008. Since she began teaching at St. Joseph School in 2004, she has also coached the track team and helped on the 8th grade retreat.
Mrs. Houser graduated from Desales High School in Walla Walla and then earned a Bachelor of Arts in Special Education / Elementary Education from Central Washington University. She completed her Masters in Educational Technology at City University. Mrs. Houser taught Special Education K-6 and Kindergarten for 11 years in the Evergreen School District before coming to St. Joseph School in 1994. She has taught kindergarten, first and second grades, and both of her children graduated from St. Joseph.
Mrs. Mannenbach attended University of Portland where she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Education with a Reading Endorsement in 1985. She completed her professional certification with the State of Washington in 2006. Mrs. Mannenbach has dedicated her teaching career to Catholic education. She began in 1985 at All Saints School in Portland, and then taught at Holy Redeemer School in Portland before coming to St. Joseph Catholic School in 2001. She is the proud mother of a St. Joseph graduate.
Mrs. Yarne earned a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from University of Idaho. She earned a Masters in Education with emphasis in Reading and Literacy and a Reading Endorsement from City University. Mrs. Yarne began teaching at St. Joseph School in 2004.
Ms. Gotshall earned a B.S.C. in Finance from Santa Clara University and M.A. in Teaching from University of Portland. Before teaching, she worked in the human resource and finance fields. Ms. Gotshall student taught at St. Joseph School in 2003 and stepped into teaching 1st grade the following year. She is working to finish her special education endorsement through Washington State University.
Mrs. Senko attended the University of Portland where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education. She received her Masters Degree from City University with an emphasis in technology curriculum and instruction. She taught grades 3 and 4 at Holy Trinity, in Beaverton, and grades 1 and 2 at Visitation, in Forest Grove. In 2003, Mrs. Senko began teaching at St. Joseph School. Two of her children have graduated from St. Joseph and one is currently in our Middle School.
Miss Cestnik graduated from Washington State University Vancouver with a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education and minor in Human Development. She began her teaching career when she joined the St. Joseph staff in 2010. After settling down in fifth grade, Miss Cestnik decided to continue on with her education. She will graduate in the summer of 2012 with a Master of Arts in Learning Technologies from Pepperdine University.
Mrs. Cestnik is a graduate of Oregon State University and has a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education with a minor in History. She has also taken courses at Portland State University in Special Education for both gifted and remedial needs. She has taught in a variety of public and parochial settings, 1st through 6th grade. Mrs. Cestnik came to St. Joseph School in 2005.
Miss Pech graduated from University of Portland with a Bachelors of Science in Secondary Education and a second major in History. She studied abroad in Salzburg, Austria during that time. Miss Pech completed her Masters of Education with a Reading endorsement at the University of Portland and is currently pursuing her ESL Endorsement. She came to St. Joseph in 2009.
Ms. Wilder earned a Bachelor of Arts from Utah State University with a major in Elementary Education Certified K-8 and a minor in Language Arts. She completed a Masters of Education program with a Reading Endorsement K-12. Ms. Wilder began teaching at St. Joseph School in 1999.
Mr. Eastes holds a Bachelor of Science in Technology with minors in Business Administration and Manufacturing Technology from Pittsburg State University. He has a Master of Arts in Teaching from City University and he completed his Professional Certification with the state of Washington in 2008. He enjoys outdoor activities and spending time with his wife and three sons, who graduated from St. Joseph School. Mr. Eastes started as an instructional aide at St. Joseph School in 2000 and began teaching 5th grade in 2002. He taught 5th grade for 6 years and currently teaches 7th and 8th grade Science and 7th grade Literature.
Miss Hiefield grew up in Oregon and attended Jesuit High School. She earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English and Mathematics from University of Puget Sound in Tacoma and a Master in Teaching degree from University of Portland. Miss Hiefield taught fifth grade for two years at St. Joseph/Marquette in Yakima before moving back to Portland. She joined our staff in 2009 teaching middle school Math and Religion.
Dr. Barbieri is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies. In addition, he has a Master of Education degree from Montana State University and a Ph.D. in Education from the University of Northern Colorado. He worked in administration for over 20 years at a number of different colleges and universities and most recently served as the Vice-President of Student Services at Clark College in Vancouver, Washington.
He has also taught a variety of college level classes in Education, Human Growth and Development and Psychology on both the undergraduate and graduate levels. He has taught 7th and 8th grade classes at Saint Joseph School since 2001. One of his children has graduated from St. Joseph and the other is in our Middle School. Mrs. Mentele holds a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Western Washington University. As a navy spouse for 20 years, she lived in numerous places around the country and in Rota, Spain. Her work history includes being a swimming pool manager in Maryland and a teacher’s aide in California and Pennsylvania. She taught grades 6 – 8 at Pacific Crest Academy in Camas before joining the St. Joseph staff in 2007 as a fourth grade teacher. In 2009 she moved to the middle school where she teaches her two favorite subjects, English and literature. She is excited that her grandson is now a student at St. Joseph School.
Instructional Aide │ Mrs. Carol Gist Mrs. Gist has a Bachelor of Science degree in Communications Management from the University of Portland. She also participated in the University of Portland Extension Program at the Portland Kultur Center in Salzburg, Austria. Mrs. Gist has worked at Circle of Friends Preschool, Mary Cassatt School of Art for Young Children, Portland Art Museum and Nabisco. She enjoys family time, movies, gardening and baking. Mrs. Gist began working at St. Joseph School in 2006. Two of her children graduated from St. Joseph and one is currently in our Middle School.
Mrs. O'Connell attended Lane Community College in Eugene, Oregon. She worked for seven years at Holy Redeemer Catholic School in Portland, Oregon, before she came to St. Joseph School in 2001.
Instructional Aide│ Mrs. Donna Wright Mrs. Wright attended Catholic schools through college, receiving her teaching degree from Regis University in Denver, Colorado in 1974. She began as a substitute at St. Joseph School nearly 20 years ago while her three sons were attending school here. Since then, she also taught full time in grades 2 and 4 and looks forward to when her grandchildren can come to our school.
Ms. Larkin earned a Bachelor of Art in Art: Drawing/Painting/Printmaking from Portland State University and a Masters of Art in Teaching from University of Portland. She worked as a scenic painter, working on projects for the Super Bowl half time show, the Times Square New Years celebration and opera scene sets; painted sets and props for the Nike Summit 2004; painted a mural at PSU in the administration building; painted a mural at the King County Humane Society; and worked as an editor for NW Print Council (now Pacific Arts NW). Ms. Larkin’s art has been showcased at an art show at Steen’s in the Pearl District. She also worked on the 2008 Oregon Zoo Campaign and continues to paint by commission. Ms. Larkin began teaching Art at St. Joseph School in 2004.
Ms. Atkins earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from Washington State University with emphasis in Communication and Secondary Education. Previously, she worked as a
communications, marketing and website consultant for small businesses and joined the St. Joseph staff in 2005.
Both of her children are St. Joseph graduates.
Mrs. Hunt earned a Bachelors of Science in Human Development and Family Sciences at Oregon State University and a Master of Arts in Teaching at George Fox University. She began teaching at St. Joseph in 2004, teaching 7th and 8th grade English and transitioned to the library in 2009. Two of her children are currently students at St. Joseph.
Mrs. Miller earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education from University of Portland and a Master of Art in Music Education from Northwestern University. She has experience teaching four years of elementary band in Kent, WA; one year teaching general music at St. John Fisher in Portland, OR; and began in St. Joseph School in 2005.
Mrs. Jayne holds a bachelors degree in Physical Education and Exercise Science from Portland State University, as well as a Masters Degree in Physical Education from The Ohio State University. She has taught Health and Physical Education and Exercise Science classes at the high school level and collegiate level. She also spent 10 years as a college volleyball coach assisting at The Ohio State University, and University of Oregon and as a head coach at Pacific University and University of Portland. She began teaching at St. Joseph in 2006. One of her children is a St. Joseph graduate and another still attends St. Joseph School.
Mrs. James graduated from Gonzaga University with a Bachelors Degree in Special Education and earned her Masters in Education from Eastern Washington University. Jill has taught as both a special education and regular education teacher. After taking time off to start her family of three boys, she worked for 8 years in the Battle Ground School District in the resource room for grades 5-8. She joined the St. Joseph staff in 2006. Two of her children have graduated from St. Joseph and one is currently in our Middle School.
Mrs. McDonagh attended college for 2 years and has worked in the Presidents Office at Washington State University and St. Joseph Parish Office. She also worked at St. Joseph School in the Hot Lunch program for 14 years before becoming the Administrative Assistant in 1997. She looks forward to her grandchildren coming to St. Joseph soon.
Mrs. Keller began working at St. Joseph School in 1992 after working as a payroll clerk for Portland Public Schools and running an in-home daycare. At St. Joseph, she has worked as an Aide, milk person, recess person, and helped in the office.
Mrs. McMorine received a Bachelor of Science degree in Art and Advertising from Oregon State University. She was the National Endowment for the Arts Artist in Residence for the Medford School District and taught programs from K-12, Adult Education programs and college. As founder and owner of Mack Media Management and Kaizen Communications, she developed and managed national advertising campaigns for consumer product companies and Non-profits capacity building and development programs. She has also served as a national trainer, event director and presenter for various non-profit organizations. Mrs. McMorine is a member of Holy Redeemer Parish, the Rotary Club of Greater Clark County, the Greater Vancouver Chamber of Commerce, Willamette Valley Development Officers and Bravo! Vancouver. Her family has proudly been part of the St. Joseph School community for four years and as the grandparent of a middle school student, has also been active in various school programs and projects.
Ms. Harrington has an Associate of Science degree. She has worked as a firefighter, a medical assistant and in retail management. She began at St. Joseph in 1998 as a classroom aide. She now works in the health room and as the Director of Extended Care. Her daughter is a graduate of St. Joseph.
Mrs. Knight earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing from Hawaii Pacific University. She worked for Horizon Airlines and owned an espresso business before taking time off with her children. Mrs. Knight began at St. Joseph in 2001. Her two children graduated from St. Joseph.
Mr. Kent graduated from Central Catholic and attended college for 2 years. He is a police officer for the Portland Police. He has been the Athletic and Recreation Coordinator for the Police Activities League, coordinated PAL sports camps, National Youth Sports Program, Asian Basketball camp, and implemented Pop Warner Football in Portland. Mr. Kent mentors and volunteers with programs targeting underprivileged youth. Mr. Kent coached basketball at St. Joseph School and was appointed CYO Athletic Director in 2006. One of his children is a St. Joseph graduate and two others currently attend St. Joseph.
