When inclement weather or other situations make it necessary to close school or to open at a later hour than usual, information may be obtained in a variety of ways - checking for notifications by email, registering for an emergency notification system called FlashAlert and receiving their messages, listening/watching the local radio and television stations, or visiting local media websites.
In inclement weather, St. Joseph Catholic School, as a general rule, follows the closure and delay schedule of Vancouver Public Schools. There may, however, be times when Vancouver schools remain open or without delay, but when we have made the decision at St. Joe’s to close or delay. Any deviation from Vancouver Public Schools will be shared by email, FlashAlert, or notices shared through local media.
In any of these scenarios, we will get the information shared with FlashAlert so it can be distributed to you through the channels you’ve indicated when you registered with the FlashAlert system. We will also send an email to all families using the school’s email system.
The safety of students is paramount. If you live outside the Vancouver district boundaries and your local school district is closed or opening late, you may follow your local school district’s directions. We also urge you to make decisions based on the safety of the roads near your home. If they’re too treacherous, please don’t try to make it to school. Your family’s safety is important, and your child’s absence will be excused.
If school is closed or starts late, morning Extended Care will be cancelled. If school closes early, Extended Care will also be closed. If school begins late, morning PreK will be cancelled but full day PreK will still be held.
If you haven’t yet registered for FlashAlert, please visit St. Joseph Parish/School Page and create an account that you can manage. You can enter multiple email addresses and there are directions on how to add a cell phone number as well.
